Interview with the band #1 – Misty Boyce

As we are all getting ready for the Little Black Dress Tour, I thought it would be cool to get to know the members of the “new band”. As you all know, before releasing The Blessed Unrest, Sara separated from her band of 10 years. We were all obviously disappointed because we created a strong connection with the boys. We even created this little video for them. But the new guys are incredibly talented as well and I think it’s high time to introduce the band members to everyone :).

Today we interview Misty Boyce, who is a singer/songwriter and Sara’s keyboardist/backing vocalist.

– How long have you been playing the keys? When did you first start?

I started playing piano when I was 5!

– What inspired you to play the piano?

My parents started me on piano and then I actually started loving it around age 12 when Jewel came out. That’s when I started playing a little guitar too.

– Have you had any ‘formal’ music training?

Yes, I have a BM in jazz studies from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music.

– How did you meet Sara?

I met Sara at our first rehearsal for The Today Show when she released “Brave” in April, 2013. I’ve known Chris Morissey (the MD/bass player) for a few years and he brought me along for this magical ride!

– What do you enjoy most about performing with Sara? How is it different from other bands you’ve been a part of?

Oh my gosh. I enjoy singing with her sooooo much. And just listening to her while we’re playing or when she does the couple solo songs she does. She never ceases to amaze me with her voice and musicianship. It’s so different from everyother band I’ve been in because she sets the bar so high musically and personally. She’s a gem.

– What’s your favorite Sara Bareilles song to perform live, and why?

Hmmmm….1000 Times!!! Or Eden!!

– What’s your favorite moment on a Sara Bareilles tour so far?

When we busted out The Way You Look Tonight at her hometown show near Eureka, CA. We all came alive and her family appreciated it so much.

– What are you listening to these days?

Gillian Welch. Dawes. Metric. Lorde. Ingrid Michaelson’s new record!

– Do you have any side projects?

YES! I have my own project and I’m in the midst of a Pledge Music campaign to help release my new record! Go pre-order it!! YAY!

Thanks Misty for taking the time to answer our questions. Next interview is with Steve Goold! Stay tuned.
