Hey there!

Clement speaking. I know, it’s been a while.

We need to talk. (scary right).
I’m writing this update to let you know that I’ve put together a brand new team for the website and the fan community. I don’t have the time to run and update everything like I used to. I’m, of course, as supportive as before, but I’m busy with work and life in general. So let’s face it, I need help. I don’t want this incredible community that I’ve worked so hard on to fade out just because I can’t deal with my new planning. That’s why 4 great fans who are also great friends are going to help with updates and keeping this fan community alive.

  • Lindsey DeLuca, who has been helping me with posting articles on this website for a while now, is going to keep doing that because she’s awesome at it.
  • Jen Webb, who’s always been very active in the community is going to help with social networks (probably Facebook&Twitter) as well as the fan community and projects. yay!
  • Courtney Lewis is also going to help out with social networks (Facebook&Twitter) and maybe posting articles on the website if Lindsey and I need help.
  • Last but not least, Cassidy Knight is going to keep updating the Instagram account (@sarabfans), and maybe Tumblr.

We’re still getting used to this new organization, but I’m 100% sure it will be awesome and you guys will get more updates (like you used to), so it’s all good!
I will soon update the team page with all profiles and social links and stuff.
I will also try to send more newsletters.

I’m not giving up my baby sarabfans, i’m just doing what’s best for it ;).
Thank you to the new team and welcome aboard!

I hope you forgive me and that I’m still a ninja. 🙂

Aside from all things Waitress Musical, check out what else Sara has been up to.

Loving my ladies from the Children of the Gospel choir. Love getting to share the stage with bright and fire-y young women who already sing me under the table. Yaaas. @whitehouse

The Little Mermaid:

Although it hasn’t happened yet, it’s been announced that Sara will be playing Ariel for two shows in “The Little Mermaid Live” in June!  Event info:  Hollywood Bowl website.

“I’ve been pretending I was Ariel in swimming pools since I was a little girl, and now I get to pretend on a bigger stage. This is just fantastic,”

Mile Run:

“I love seeing how much women are celebrating women right now,” Bareilles said. “And I love men, don’t get me wrong, this is not about male-bashing at all, but I do love building a sense of community and sisterhood amongst women.”

“The greatest thing we can do is to give each other a safe space to truly, truly be ourselves in the world.”

New album!?

There is talk of a new album in the future, after a well deserved vacation of course.

“I have to figure out what [my next record] is going to look and feel like,” Bareilles said. “I feel rejuvenated from working on a project that’s so far from what I’m normally doing. It’ll be fun to get back to my next ‘Sara Bareilles’ record.”

Spongebob Musical:

Yolanda Adams, Sara Bareilles and Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros will write original songs for the Broadway-bound The SpongeBob Musical.

From previews starting March 25th to opening night on April 24th “Waitress” has received a lot of positive press and reviews. A general theme that the musical is well liked and can expect a bright future. Below are a few quotes from reviews posted within the past few weeks.

The New York Times

Ms. Bareill25waitress-web1-master768es shows an unexpected flair for comic songs, with that joyous hootenanny for Mr. Fitzgerald; a nervous solo about dating jitters for Ms. Glenn; and a rollicking duet for Jenna and the doctor wittily establishing that they both know that getting together is a “pretty good bad idea.”

Ms. Mueller also has a lovely, reflective ballad in the first act that establishes, or rather underscores, the solace Jenna finds in making pies, which allows her to escape the awkward chemistry of her life into the satisfying alchemy of baking.

But it is when Ms. Mueller tears into the musical’s climactic number, “She Used to Be Mine,” that her talents are most fully and movingly harnessed. In this emotionally intricate song, Jenna looks at herself from the outside, analyzing the conflicts and complexities within her: “She is messy but she’s kind/She is lonely most of the time.” In acknowledging the mistakes she’s made and the regret she’s allowed to puncture her self-esteem, Jenna finds a voice for the nascent, regenerating woman within her.

Review: Jessie Mueller Serves a Slice of Life (With Pie) in Sara Bareilles’s ‘Waitress’

Los Angeles Times

There are beautiful harmonies throughout, a couple of high-spirited group numbers and some jaunty orchestral use of kitchen utensils, but the score is notable for allowing Mueller to bare Jenna’s soul in a wash of ethereal jazz.

‘Waitress’ serves up a slice of star power in Jesse Mueller

Hollywood Reporter

There’s no doubt that Bareilles can write songs, as the catchy hooks in these numbers attest. The surprise is that while most of her own popular work has been intimately personal, she writes just as well when channeling the point of view of fictional characters.

Also noteworthy, The New York Times published an article about Sara and her recent work on the musical 🙂

20BAREILLES-master768

“It actually took me a long time to say that I love this project,” Ms. Bareilles said recently, enjoying a glass of pinot grigio after another long day of rehearsal. “It was very hard; it was confusing; it was foreign. I think I was having a little bit of an out-of-body experience with it for maybe the first year of working on this show.”

BUT – that doesn’t mean the show is lacking anywhere. In fact, Sara even wrote a little tune to remind people to turn off their cell-phones before the show starts. You can listen below… it resembles her song “Cassiopeia” and some agree that the end has a hint of a small part in “Sweet As Whole”.

Broadway Box Office: ‘Waitress’ Musical Is Piping Hot in Its First Week

With the Easter holiday prodding the overall Broadway box office to rise again, the new musical “Waitress” had a hearty debut, averaging a whopping $140,000 per performance in its first three previews.

Based on the 2007 Adrienne Shelly film, “Waitress” ($425,7830) is powered by a score by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and by the movie’s feel-good tale. It doesn’t hurt, too, that the story, centering on an unhappy waitress who enters a pie-baking contest, seems to hold clear appeal to the largely female demographic that makes up the majority of Broadway ticket buyers. In its first days on the boards, the show played to full houses and broke the box office record at the 1,045-seat Brooks Atkinson Theater for a single performance, reporting $145,532 for its first preview.

March 25th was the start of previews for Waitress and things went pretty well. Even the technical issues on March 31st led to a special show for the audience.

How to kill time while a problem gets fixed? Have your Grammy-nominated songwriter charm the crowd.

-Lonnie Firestone, Vanity Fair

Also, check out the video in the link below from Broadway World!

Molly Hager, who was in charge of the Waitress Musical SnapChat that night, along with Sara herself also captured the moments of the unplanned mini show. Here’s a compilation video in case you missed it!

It may not be a surprise to fellow Sara fans that this pause in the show led her to sing “Part of Your World”, although we later find out that Sara will play Ariel in two of the upcoming shows of ‘The Little Mermaid’ at Hollywood Bowl. (more on this later)

As previews and opening day get closer I’m sure we’ll be seeing more in the media, in fact the ladies of Waitress had a photo shoot with Vanity Fair (in which Sara posted a video from on her Instagram).

(Link to video on Sara’s IG)

Jessie Mueller, who also played Jenna during the musicals run at A.R.T. in Boston, admits she’s a fan of Sara and mentioned it in an interview with Broadway Direct after talking about becoming familiar with Carole King’s music for her part as Carole in the musical Beautiful.

“I’ve liked her work for a long time now, ever since ‘Love Song’ came out. I realize now that she always gets inside the story of something, and that’s why her work translates so well to a musical. She is such an amazing blend — she has the pop sensibility that makes her writing so good, but also a sense of character that I’ve been blown away with.”
