“If you take your fear and mash it into something that’s actually useful, then it doesn’t feel like it wins.” – Sara Bareilles
Hosted by opera star Renée Fleming, the American Voices festival truly proved to be a remarkable event held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts over the weekend. The spectacle featured some of the most talented singer-songwriter virtuosos today, including our very own and very splendid Sara Bareilles and master musician Ben Folds.
The highlight of the festival is an all-star concert featuring an amazing lineup of artists backed by the National Symphony Orchestra. Sara and Ben performed a duet and graced the stage together with Renée Fleming, Sutton Foster, Josh Groban, Alison Krauss, and Dianne Reeves, among others. Read an awesome review of the concert here.
Sara and Ben also had the opportunity to mentor and coach a few pre-selected young talents, all of whom are literally mind blowing! The Pop/Rock Master Session was insightful, inspiring, and charming both for the audience and artists, as well as Sara and Ben themselves! It was fun seeing these two be their amazing yet adorable selves sharing intuitive and sharp-witted (yet encouraging) feedback along with a few quirky banters.
(For those of you wondering, Sara will not be part of the upcoming The Sing-Off season. Unfortunate sigh, but here’s to hoping she will at least be a guest judge or performer!)

Stay tuned for updates on Sara’s performance which will be featured on a special PBS documentary
about the festival coming on 2014!
